Argentium® Sterling Silver, a registered and patented alloy developed by Peter Johns, is currently being produced by Stern Leach in the U.S. under a licensing agreement from Middlesex University, England. Argentium® Sterling Silver is a registered trade name.

This silver is highly tarnish resistant requiring minimal maintainance. An occasional wash and rinse and/or wipe with a soft cotton cloth is all that’s needed to keep the object in pristine condition (when not in use, store piece away from humidity). Argentium is made to a higher standard than traditional sterling silver and its purity is guaranteed to be .925+.

Gold Filled (also called Gold Overlay or Rolled Gold) vs. Gold Plate and Vermeil:
Gold Plate (gold which is electroplated to brass) and Gold Vermeil (gold which is electroplated to silver) uses only a microscopic amount of gold and thus has the tendency to flake over time or discolor when the metal below begins to tarnish.

We use 1/20 14K (or 14/20) Yellow Gold Fill which is made by bonding a layer of 14K Yellow Gold (the layer, by government standards, has to be 1/20th of the weight of the piece) to an alloy (usually silver or jeweler’s brass) through high heat and pressure. Because this layer of gold is usually much thicker (gold-filled is 50 to 100,000 times thicker than regular gold plating, and about 17 to 25,000 times thicker than heavy gold electroplate) than that of plated items, it does not chip or flake easily and can typically last a lifetime. As with all gold, gold filled items react with chlorine and we advise against use in pools or spas.

In an effort to minimize our impact on the environment, we use recycled metals and responsibly mined gemstones wherever possible.
